I was born in Camarthen, the County town of Camarthenshire, South Wales in 1944. I grew up in the Steel town of Llanelli, known for its Steel works and rugby team. Llanelli was known as 'Tinopolis' in the early 20th century, reflecting the amount of tinplate that was produced. Now alas, all gone.

Our rugby team has been a formidable force for many years and currently is in the top handful of teams right at the top of the Rugby Union game. As a schoolboy I was fortunate to gain a number of 'Welsh Schools International' rugby caps. I played for Llanelli first squad and almost played 'Rugby League' for the Northern club 'Barrow'. As an athlete of 'Olympic potential' in the early 60's I broke the Welsh National schools record for the javelin and the last time I looked, the record was still there after more than 40 years.

As for art, I have always been interested in sketching and calligraphy, but it wasn't until 1967 when I trained as a Design Engineer that I gained formal training. Artistic expression, as with most of us, takes a back seat when you have family to bring up and it is only since the mid 1990s that I have been able to concentrate on the work I really want to do.

When I had the opportunity, I looked at what I actually wanted to do - the draughtsman in me was destined to come out. I am very interested in pencil sketching in particular, where tonal shades are the essence of the work. Add to that the medium of 'watercolours' and I believe I have a broad talent that allows me to produce artwork to meet most needs.

As a Welshman first and last I offer the facility where I travel throughout South/West Wales to paint or sketch places of particular interest or nostalgia for likeminded folk who want a personal memory.
