“My passion is always to work through color finding the essence of the subject as I see it”

A native of Ohio, Elaine is an accomplished artist who has lived and traveled the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe.  As a teacher and student, she has organized, exhibited and won awards in numerous juried shows throughout the United States and Canada.  This broad area of study, plus her BA in Psychology gives Elaine special insight into her artistry.  She holds a lifetime teaching credential in California, has taught painting in two colleges, and many specialty workshops throughout the US and Canada.

While flowers are Elaine’s forte – she also exhibits expertise in other subjects  Her added success in working in pen and ink, pencil and charcoal show a greatly varied talent.  Passion for color is clearly evident in Elaine’s paintings – and her style – definitely her own.  Elaine’s artwork is included in many fine collections throughout Europe and North America.

Influenced by her late father, M. Starrett Wetzel – a renowned artist of the Bakersfield, California area – Elaine began to paint seriously in 1969 with notable American artists including Leslie B. DeMill and Joyce Clark of Laguna Beach, California, the late Eudora Judd of Bakersfield, California, and completed two workshops with renowned watercolorist Zolton Szabo.  She studied privately for two years in Rome, Italy with Alberto Conti.

NC), and Art Leagues of Henderson and Transylvania Counties.  She is president of Connestee Falls Art League, and in 2003 chaired the largest non-juried art show in Western North Carolina.  In NC she is represented by Wickwire Gallery, Hendersonville; Cherokee Gallery, Connestee Falls; and The Quarry Gallery in Brevard.
