Cody DeLong

Growing up in a rural Midwestern town, Cody was instilled at an early age with a solid work ethic and an affinity for nature and all its beauty.
A natural artist, Cody has been drawing and painting
since he was five and is continually inspired
by the desert which has been his home for most
of his adult life.
“Each painting I do begins with an idea, something that’s inspired me. I try to distill this in my mind until I’ve achieved an almost meditative state where I can explore which compositions, color harmonies, etc., will best serve my idea. The balance I’m searching for lies in creating a work that is technically proficient while preserving that which fuelled my passion in the first place. The result, hopefully, will provide the viewer with a perspective they might not otherwise have seen, a never-ending moment in time.”
A passionate student of art, Cody has studied at
the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, as well as
the Scottsdale Artists School,
where, in 2003, he was awarded a merit-based
scholarship. In 2004, the Oil Painters
of America selected him as that year’s
Shirl Smithson Scholarship winner.
Cody is now sharing his passion for painting through
teaching, offering private lessons at his studio
in Cottonwood Arizona,
as well as plein-air instruction in and around
the Sedona area. In addition, Cody has
agreed to teach an evening class at the Sedona Arts Center,
beginning in March 2007.
Currently Cody divides his time between studio and
plein-air work. He has participated in
several plein air competitions, including The
Sedona Plein Air Festival and The Plein Air New
Mexico Invitational.
In the fall of 2006, one of Cody’s paintings
was selected for inclusion in a ‘coffee-table’ style
book, titled Plein Air New Mexico, The
Jack Richeson Series – Volume One.
Cody is a member of The Oil Painters
of America,
Plein Air New
Mexico,
The Society of Master Impressionists, Landscape Artists
International and Art for Patronage.
