Ann Bridges |
Working from sketch book studies and direct observation Ann creates vibrantly coloured images combining painting and stencil based printmaking processes.
Layers of inks are applied directly to the picture surface using small hand held rollers, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next.
By wiping off areas that are not quite dry and drawing into the ink, hidden colours are revealed and the richness of the image is gradually built up.
Ann was born in London and moved to Wales in 1988, from Kent.
From 1995-1999 she studied at Yale College and the North Wales College of Art and Design, obtaining first class honours in Illustration.
For two years (1999-2001) Ann worked as Artist in Residence at Chester Zoo, concentrating on the Aquarium, the Twilight Zone (bats) and the gardens.
Her first love is drawing, and the shelves of sketch books bear testament to this, mostly in diary format documenting family and working life as a full time artist.
Her paintings capture the essence of play, and taking the time to ‘stand and stare’, drawn from a combination of happy childhood memories of playing in the garden and on the beach, walking in the woods, reading stories (the Princess and the Pea) and sorting through the button box.
Ann is based in Ruthin in north Wales. She was invited to be a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2000 and elected as a council member in 2007.
Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally in group and solo shows. Paintings in Hospitals hold a number of works in their loan collection.
